Message from the YMG Chair
Hello and welcome to the ASCE Rhode Island Section website! I am excited to be able to serve as Chair of the Younger Member Group this year and I hope to continue to grow and improve the Rhode Island ASCE YMG. Currently we are a group large enough to host a full calendar of events with an activity nearly every month, while we are also still small enough to preserve the feeling of a close-knit group where you certainly won’t get lost in the crowd.
My participation in ASCE began during college at the University of Rhode Island and it has been a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. Working to advance the profession and helping to inspire future engineers has kept me enthusiastic about ASCE, however, there are even more benefits to membership. ASCE runs arguably some of the best conferences for career advancement and leadership training available. The Eastern Region Younger Member Council (ERYMC), which I attended in Miami, Florida, allows younger members an opportunity to meet other younger member leaders to discuss issues, exchange ideas and set the foundation on how to run and improve your local YMG or Younger Member Forum (YMF).
There is also the Younger Member Leadership Symposium (YMLS) that gives younger members a chance to visit ASCE Headquarters in Reston, Virginia and the government relations office in Washington, DC. This conference is held annually in August, and I cannot recommend it enough.
I appreciate you visiting our website and hope to see you at some of our upcoming events. We are always looking for additional help, and it is always a great time to get involved. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
