Message from the YMG Chair
Hello and welcome to the ASCE Rhode Island Section website! I am honored to be able to serve as Chair of the Younger Member Group this year and I hope to continue to grow and improve the Rhode Island ASCE YMG. This year ASCE RI is turning 100! We are celebrating with a yearlong competition in which we will give one organization “100 years of bragging rights.” In addition to our typical monthly events, we are planning new events in hopes to double the amount of events and younger member participation. Like Rhode Island, we are a small tight-knit group but we still host large, fun, laid back monthly events.
My participation in ASCE began once I joined the workforce in Providence. I was looking to meet with other Civil Engineers and grow my network; I have been involved ever since. So far being a member of ASCE YMG has provided me countless opportunities to give back to the community, grow my leadership skills and network with experienced and knowledgeable civil engineers. With the sponsorship of my company, VHB, I was able to attend one of the Younger Member Leadership Symposiums (YMLS) at ASCE Headquarters this summer and took away a lot of new tools and ideas on how to be a successful leader not just for ASCE YMG, but in my career and life as well. I have found with being involved in ASCE that I have met countless like-minded individuals who help to motivate and support me in my goal to get more engineers involved in giving back to the community, networking and growing our civil engineering impact on the world.
I appreciate you visiting our website and hope to see you at some of our upcoming events. We are always looking for additional help, and it is always a great time to get involved. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
